He was “the Encourager,” a caring and compassionate man who was willing to give of himself and his means. He believed in people and saw them as individuals of worth. He saw the other person as someone with potential, and often saw in them what others could not see. When they failed, he helped them to get up and try again. I believe Barnabas had the heart of Jesus.

Favorite Verses: James 1:22-25
Favorite Person in the Bible (other than Jesus): Moses
Not only is it encouraging and exciting to read about the many miraculous events that took place in the life of Moses, there are also so many key lessons and biblical truths found within his life story that can be applied to the lives of all believers. Here are just a few: First, all honor and glory belong solely to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Second, the Lord does not need you or I to be spiritual giants or have supernatural strength to serve Him. Third, He demands us to faithfully trust and obey Him no matter the circumstances. What does this mean for you and I? As fellow servants of Jesus Christ and ambassadors of the gospel, have faith. Trust the Lord. Know that He equips who He calls to accomplish His purposes for His glory.

SUNDAY SERVICE 10:30am
Dr. Kelly Burris is preaching through a series on "Living the Blessed Life".  In this series, we will focus on the essentials of the Christian life. We hope that you will be challenged and encouraged through the preaching of God's Word.  We pray these sermons would not only encourage and challenge you, but also convict you to grow closer to the Lord Jesus.  Also, be sure to check out past sermons you've missed or would like to hear again on the Sermons page.

A Message from our Pastor...

Dr. Kelly Burris
In these very trying and uncertain times, I want to encourage you that we, as a KBC staff, are doing everything we can to meet your needs and the needs of those in our community. We want you to know that we are available if you need us. You can call our church office, email us, or fill out our "How Can We Help" online survey, if you have a need. We encourage you to connect with us through our social media options, as well as viewing our Sunday morning services here on our website. Remember these words from Paul:
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."   - Philippians 4:6-7

Coronavirus Updates

At KBC we place a high priority on gathering together to worship and partner with God in changing lives. We want everyone to feel welcome during worship, Bible Studies, and other activities, but we are aware of some of the concerns that surround COVID-19. At this time KBC Pastors and staff have adopted some precautions and recommendations regarding the virus.

HOW DO WE MAKE SENSE OF THE CORONAVIRUS (OR ANY OTHER SICKNESS)?
In situations like this, it's very easy to lose faith and to live in fear of the headlines and the unknowns. We must remember and live with the confidence that Jesus has all knowledge and all authority over the natural and supernatural forces of this world. He knows exactly where the virus started, and where it's going next. He has complete power to restrain it or not. And that what's happening. Neither sin, nor Satan, nor sickness, nor sabotage is stronger than Jesus. He’s never backed into a corner; he is never forced to tolerate what he does not will. “The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations” (Psalm 33:11). We recommend you listen to this short 16 minute podcast from Desiring God Ministries on how to think Biblically and respond with compassion to our neighbors and the nations regarding this global health concern. https://www.desiringgod.org/interviews/how-do-we-make-sense-of-the-coronavirus

WHAT PRECAUTIONS CAN I TAKE?
Naturally, we value worshipping with you, however if you are feeling sick or running a fever, the best way to worship with the KBC Family is through our recorded sermons online.  You can access our sermons on the church website (Sermons). If you are healthy, do not use this as an excuse to stay in your jammies and worship from your couch! Trust Jesus for your moment by moment and gather with the body of Christ. KBC has soap and water at our gatherings for you to wash your hands.

We encourage everyone to take certain steps to protect themselves and others from the coronavirus, flu, and other illnesses, including:
  • Washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds;
  • Using hand sanitizer when soap and water is not available;
  • Not touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands;
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick;
  • Staying home if you or someone in your family is sick;
  • Covering your cough or sneeze;
  • Disinfecting objects and surfaces regularly.

WHAT PRECAUTION IS KBC TAKING?
KBC is taking extra cleaning precautions at this time, including wiping down all common area touchpoints (e.g., doors, light switches, stair railings, tables, etc.) throughout the week with a certified disinfectant, and placing hand sanitizers in common areas throughout the buildings.

In all of our KidsCove (preschool and elementary) classrooms, our leaders sterilize various surfaces used by our children. We are implementing  new health protocols by not admitting any child with an elevated temperature (above 99.6 F). A child must also be fever free for 24 hours before coming to any KidsCove class.

During our worship gatherings, we continue to share in a weekly greeting, but encourage replacing handshakes with fist or elbow bumps. For the next few weeks, we will collect our tithes and offerings at the end of the service by having collection buckets located at the entrances of the Sanctuary to drop your tithes and offerings into. Additional precautions will be taken as necessary for the observation of ordinances like Lord’s Supper and Baptism.

WHAT ABOUT OUR EVENTS AND MISSIONS TRIPS?
KBC is canceling all services, events, and trips until further notice.

Considering the nature of the Damascus Missions Trip being a senior adult trip, we have decided to cancel the trip this year.
We will continue to move forward with the Belize Missions Trip but will remain attentive to travel restrictions and health updates as we move along.

We trust the Lord and His timing in all of this. Cancelling events and trips is in no way a retreat of partnering with God in reaching our community and the world nor a fear of a virus or a fear of man's reaction to the threat of a virus. We are trusting God's sovereignty and ask that you pray for people who have been impacted by the virus, missionaries who live in countries where they have been confined to their homes, and people who are afraid, that they would trust the living God who is the Great Healer and Divine Planner. This is not the time to retreat in our praying and giving, but a time to increase our praying and our giving, so that when restrictions are lifted, we will be ready to be carriers of the gospel and encouragers in person. In the meantime, we will be carriers of the gospel in prayer and encouragers in other mediums.

WHAT ELSE SHOULD I KNOW?
The coronavirus is yet one more reminder that we live in a fallen world of sickness, sin, suffering, and death. Ultimately, none of us are immune to any of these things. But that’s why the gospel is such good news. God has not left us alone in this world of sickness, sin, suffering, and death. He has come to us in the person of Jesus. The greatest news in all the world is that Jesus lived a life with no sin, died on a cross to pay the price for our sin, and rose from the grave in victory over sin and death. Now anyone anywhere who turns from their sin and trusts in Jesus will be forgiven of all their sin and restored to relationship with God forever. That means that through Jesus, we never have to fear sickness or death because we know we have eternal life with God.

If you do not know that you have eternal life with God, we urge you to put your faith in Jesus Christ. If you need prayer or would like someone to share more with you, please call the church office (757-499-5457).
If you do know that you have eternal life with God, we urge you to share the hope and peace of Jesus with others. Find practical ways to help serve and care for those in need, and continue to pray.
  • Pray to the Sovereign God, Creator and Sustainer of all things. Trust in Him above all else. Pray for His name to be glorified and lifted high among all nations as He alone is the author of life and death.
  • Pray mercy and healing for those who have taken ill, and their affected families.
  • Pray protection over those who are easily susceptible to sickness.
  • Pray for first responders and medical professionals fighting to contain and curtail the spread of COVID-19.
  • Pray wisdom for federal, state and local officials.

STAY CONNECTED
  • Stay connected with KBC through social media, Facebook.
  • Continue to give faithfully your tithes and offerings no matter where you are. Visit kempsvillebaptist.com/giving to set up a one-time or recurring gift, and for a full list of ways you can give.
  • Sign up for KBC's Text and Email Lists.
  • Access sermons from the church website (Sermons) or the KempsvilleBaptistChurch app.
As we continue to monitor further developments, you can find updates here, on this page, and on our social media accounts.

Favorite Verses: Psalm 3:3-5
Favorite Person in the Bible (Other than Jesus): I love the story of John Mark. This is a guy who was very close to the disciples, and was also the nephew of Barnabas. He traveled with Paul and Barnabas on their first missionary journey, but returned home to Jerusalem unexpectedly. I mean this is a guy who was known as a complete failure and disappointment, as Paul was so upset that he did not let Mark come back to travel with him some more. God then raised up John Mark to write the Gospel of Mark. Even in Paul’s last letter to Timothy, he advises Timothy to go and get Mark and use him for his ministry, because he was so helpful for Paul’s. This is an awesome example of how God can bring up someone who is a complete failure and disappointment, and use him or her for His good. We never know who God can use ultimately for His perfect and mighty purpose.

MALAWI MISSIONS

Frank and Jynn Albano went to Malawi in May.  Details of their trip will be posted here soon.
Valentine Banquet
Adult married and engaged couples are invited to enjoy a romantic evening for two in a Christian atmosphere. The Valentine’s Banquet always takes place the Friday before Valentine’s Day. The evening begins with photos and is followed by appetizers and live music before dinner. You’ll enjoy great food, fellowship, and entertainment. The evening concludes with a special gift for all couples.
